Former First Lady of the United States Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis was known for restoring the White House, her love of arts and culture and an inimitable sense of style.
It’s no surprise then that her Martha’s Vineyard estate, listed for US$65 million (AU$93 million) shares the same elegance.
The property, purchased by Onassis in 1979, was a former sheep farm with landscapes designed by designer Rachel Bunny Mellon who also redesigned the White House Rose Garden while Onassis was First Lady.
The Cape Cod-style main house was first designed by architect Hugh Newell Jacobson, while Deborah Berke – dean of the Yale School of Architecture – was commissioned by Onassis’ daughter Caroline Kennedy to renovate and expand the home in 2000.
